Frequently Asked Questions before, during, and after the survey

Which Handbook should I purchase, the one with or without CMS requirements?

If you are a Medicare certified ambulatory surgery center, you should purchase the Accreditation Handbook Including Medicare Requirements for Ambulatory Surgery Centers.

I have an old Handbook, do I really need the newest version?

Yes. All accredited organizations are required to meet the most current Standards. During your term of accreditation, you can order a print or CD version of the appropriate Handbook, or use the coupon code that you will receive in March to order a PDF version.

When do I have to submit my application for re-accreditation?

You should submit your application for survey 5-6 months prior to your expiration date.

When do we need to pay the survey fee?

For a non-Medicare survey, the survey fee must be paid no later than 20 days prior to the survey date.

For a Medicare survey, the survey fee is due no later than 20 days prior to the first day of the established 90-day window.

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes, we accept all forms of credit card payment.

Can I request a specific specialty (dermatologist, cosmetic surgeon, etc.) surveyor to do our survey?

These requests are best made in advance (at least 2-3 months prior to the potential survey date). We will make every effort to send a surveyor in your choice of specialty, but it is not always guaranteed.
