Clínica Santa Isabel of Lima, Peru Achieves Prestigious International Accreditation

Lima, Peru  – Jan. 3, 2013 – Clínica Santa Isabel, a leading women's and children's health care facility in Peru, has achieved accreditation by AAAHC International, the global arm of the US-based Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Accreditation distinguishes Clínica Santa Isabel as providing the highest quality of care to its patients as determined by an independent and objective external evaluation.

AAAHC International Standards are rigorous. Not all health care organizations seek accreditation; not all that undergo the rigorous on-site survey process are granted accreditation.

“For more than three years our team has worked to achieve international operational standards for our organization,” said Miguel Ramirez, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Clínica Santa Isabel.  “We are pleased the work has resulted in high quality health services as affirmed by our international accreditation award. When Peruvian women see this accreditation certificate, they will know that Clínica Santa Isabel provides the highest international caliber women´s and children´s services.”

This is the second Peruvian facility to receive AAAHC accreditation. Oncocare S.R.L., part of the Pacifico Salud health care system, received accreditation in June.

"Our Pacifico team is very happy that another Peruvian healthcare institution has been accredited by the AAAHC,” said Guillermo Garrido Lecca, Chief Executive Officer, Pacifico Salud. “Clínica Santa Isabel achieved a significant milestone that demonstrates their commitment to improving the Peruvian healthcare system. In addition, Clínica Santa Isabel is an important provider in our network and this accreditation will assure good outcomes for our insured members. I want to congratulate Clínica Santa Isabel while at the same time challenge all Peruvian healthcare institutions to follow Clínica Santa Isabel´s initiative in seeking international accreditation.”

Health care organizations seeking accreditation by AAAHC International undergo an extensive self-assessment and rigorous on-site survey by AAAHC International surveyors – physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory health care. The survey is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.

“AAAHC International accreditation is unique.  Our peer-based survey process and educational programs adapt to an assortment of ambulatory care environments, allowing our surveyors to review services, share current professional knowledge and best practices and ultimately accredit those international providers of high-quality health care,” said John Olsen, MD, president of AAAHC International. “Seeking and achieving AAAHC accreditation symbolizes dedication by an organization and its personnel to their patients; it embodies a commitment to providing the best care locally, and of a global standard."

Based on results of the December 2012 survey, AAAHC International granted accreditation for a three year-term, reflecting confidence that Clínica Santa Isabel demonstrates the attributes of an accreditable organization as defined by the Standards outlined in the AAAHC International Accreditation Handbook for Health Care. Compliance with those Standards represents an organization’s commitment to continual self-evaluation and improvement.
