About the Program: The Accreditation Association's Office-Based Surgery Accreditation Program was developed in 2001. This program was developed for organizations that have no more than four physicians/dentists and no more than two operating rooms.
Office-based surgery centers with more than four physicians/dentists and/or more than two operating rooms, or with more than one office location, may still apply for accreditation. The applicable accreditation standards do not change based on organization size. The only difference for larger office-based surgery organizations is that the survey may be longer than one day in length and/or may be conducted by more than one surveyor.
Resources: Smaller organizations, such as discribed above, will benefit from the Accreditation Guidebook for Office-Based Surgery. The Guidebook highlights the relevant AAAHC standards that apply to smaller surgery practices and provides guidance on how to meet those standards. Interpretive and review guidelines are provided for each standard to help those in smaller practices understand how the standards are applied in these smaller settings. The Guidebook also includes the AAAHC eligibility criteria, policies and procedures and worksheets that can be used to assist with compliance pertaining to the areas of credentialing, personnel, quality improvement and clinical records.
Regardless of the size of the center, applicant organizations may download and submit the Application for Survey.
