General Information

The AAAHC Standards for a Center of Excellence are designed to demonstrate use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, on-going performance improvement strategies, and organizational infrastructure that supports excellence in the specialty area. The orthopaedic program has a special focus on transitions of care from the pre-assessment to intraoperative, discharge, and rehabilitation planning and execution, all specific to orthopaedic care.

The program was created with feedback and insight from an expert panel comprised of orthopaedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, orthopaedic nurses, physical therapy, quality experts, and payers. Pilot surveys tested the “real world” application of the AAAHC Standards in clinical settings.

Like other AAAHC programs, orthopaedic certification is based on a consultative, on-site survey.
