Oncocare S.R.L., part of the Pacifico Salud family of healthcare facilities, has achieved international accreditation by AAAHC International, the global arm of the US-based Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

“Through the hard work and dedication of a highly qualified and motivated interdisciplinary team, Oncocare achieved a historic milestone in the Peruvian healthcare sector,” stated Dr. Patrick Albert Palmieri, Chief Quality and Safety Officer, Pacifico Salud. “After implementing robust quality improvement and patient safety initiatives and adopting evidence-based oncology practices to guide patient care, Oncocare was able to earn the first international healthcare accreditation in Peruvian history. Peruvian consumers have a clear choice when they require oncology services. Our team is very proud of this significant accomplishment.”

“We believe Peruvians deserve access to the best healthcare,” stated Carlos Navarro, Chief Executive Officer for Oncocare. “When you see our certificate of accreditation, you will know that AAAHC International, an independent, not-for-profit organization, has closely examined our facility and procedures. It means we, as an organization, care enough about our patients to strive for the highest level of care possible. We offer peace of mind to our patients and their families.”

Ambulatory health care organizations seeking accreditation by AAAHC International undergo an extensive self-assessment and rigorous on-site survey by AAAHC International surveyors – physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory health care. The survey is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.

Based on evidence from the May 2012 survey, AAAHC International granted accreditation for a three year term reflecting confidence that Oncocare met and will continue to demonstrate the attributes of an accreditable organization as reflected in the Standards found in the International Accreditation Handbook for Health Care. The dedication and effort necessary for an organization to be accredited is substantial and compliance with those Standards implies a commitment to continual self-evaluation and continuous improvement.

“Going through the process challenged us to find better ways to serve our patients, and it is a constant reminder or our responsibility to strive to continuously improve the quality of care we provide,” said Dr. Carlos Carracedo Gonzales, Medical Oncologist and Medical Director for Oncocare. “We offer high quality evidence-based oncology care customized to the unique needs of each and every one of our patients.”
