Pilot Survey Program for Small and Rural Hospitals Announced

AAHHS Seeks 10 Hospitals to Refine Accreditation Standards - 4/30/2013

The Accreditation Association for Hospitals/Health Systems, Inc.(AAHHS), today announced it is seeking small and rural hospitals to participate in two pilot programs to refine the Standards and survey process for hospital accreditation.

The first pilot program, which will take place this summer, will include free surveys of five hospitals. Three surveyors, accompanied by AAHHS staff, will address administrative and clinical aspects of the hospital, including:

  • Anesthesia services
  • Food and dietetic services
  • Governing body
  • Infection control
  • Laboratory services
  • Medical record services
  • Nursing services
  • Pharmaceutical services
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Respiratory services
  • Surgical services
  • Swing beds

During the interactive survey process, surveyors will talk with hospital staff about the intent of the AAHHS Standards and how a hospital can demonstrate compliance, as well as take suggestions from the hospital staff and CEO.

“This is an opportunity for hospitals to help us shape this program while, at the same time, getting a free surveyor consultation and an opportunity to see what accreditation is like,” said Meg Gravesmill, vice president of AAHHS. “It provides a look from fresh sets of eyes to allow a hospital to see how it compares to nationally recognized standards.”
