CMS has clarified that orders sent via text do not comply with the Conditions for Coverage (CfCs). CMS does realize that texting as a means of communication between team members is essential and valuable; however, providers must use systems/platforms that are secure and encrypted and which minimize the risk to patient privacy when communicating protected health information.
