Organizations that hold AAAHC Accreditation or Certification in these programs may download a digital version of the handbook by logging in to their 1095 Engage Profile. Presenters

Frank Chapman, MBA, is currently the chair of the AAAHC Standards Development Committee. He has been a Surveyor for AAAHC since 2005 and is a trained and active Medicare Surveyor specializing in endoscopic ASCs. Mr. Chapman has served as AAAHC faculty for several years and enthusiastically integrates his experience and knowledge into his teaching.

Tracy Katz, MSN, MS, APRN, FNP-C, CPHQ, is the Director of Standards Development at the AAAHC. In her role, she is responsible for leading the development of AAAHC Standards across all Accreditation and Certification Programs. Tracy is a Nurse Practitioner with more than 15 years of experience in health care, clinical projects, and product development and management.

FacultyArnaldo Valedon, MD, MBA

is an anesthesiologist who has been practicing day surgery for 26 years. He received his bachelor’s degree in science at Cornell University in 1987 and Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1991. He completed a Global master’s in business administration at the Bayes Business School of the University of London, UK, in 2023.

 

Dr. Valedon has provided outpatient anesthesia and perioperative management services exclusively. He has served as medical director of three outpatient surgery centers, President of Summit Anesthesia and Perioperative Management, and Managing Partner and Chief of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Division of First Colonies Anesthesia Associates. Dr. Valedon currently serves as the Medical Director for Outpatient Perioperative Services and Director of Anesthesia Services at the WellSpan Health and Surgery Center at WellSpan Health in Pennsylvania. Dr. Valedon is the president-elect for the International Association of Ambulatory Surgery, of which he is currently a member of the General Assembly and Executive Committee. He is also the Past President of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA). He is a Past Chair of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare (AAAHC), a board member of Acreditas Global (previously known as AAAHC-International), and current Chair of the Orthopaedics Expert Content Committee.

 

Helen Larios MBA, MSN, RN is the Manager of Standards Development at the AAAHC. In her role, Helen supports the development of Standards and is responsible for Standards interpretation. Helen is a nurse with more than 20 years of experience in health care, leadership, patient safety, and quality projects. Helen is also a staff liaison for the Orthopaedic Certification expert content committee.

BiosSusan Griffin, MSM has expertise in assisting healthcare organizations in various initiatives, including achieving accreditation, improving operations, transforming into a Medical Home, and complying with regulatory entities such as CMS/Medicare, Medicaid, OIR, and AHCA. Her 25 years of operational leadership include serving managed care health plans, long-term care facilities, AHCA licensed health care clinics, FQHCs, ACOs, ASCs, and urgent care centers. Her expertise includes Medicare and Medicaid contract applications, quality improvement, risk management, credentialing, customer/member services, appeals and grievances, provider/member database maintenance, claims, and contract negotiations.

 

She earned a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and a master’s in management.

 

Ms. Griffin has been a Surveyor for AAAHC since 2006. She chairs the AAAHC Standards Development Expert Content Committee for Health Plans and actively participates in continuously updating accreditation Standards.

 

Naté McCray, MHA, MHI is the Senior Standards Development Specialist at AAAHC. In her role, Naté supports the development of Standards and our key initiative for Health Equity. Naté began her journey at AAAHC in Accreditation operations as an account manager prior to joining the Standards Development team. Naté served as immediate past lead staff liaison for the Health Plans Expert Content Committee.

FacultyMichael Huey, MD is a family physician with a primary care sports medicine subspecialty. His 40+ year medical career included 4 years as a rural family physician with supervision of the local Indian Health Service and 30 years of college health. He retired in 2018 as Assistant VP of Student Health and Counseling and Associate Professor of Family and Preventive Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta.

He has been active in the American College Health Association, and served as President in 2017-2018 and Interim CEO in 2020-2021. He is co-author of ACHA’s 2016 “Framework for a Comprehensive College Health Program.” He was a member of the ACHA COVID-19 Task Force and co-author of several ACHA COVID-19 preparation and planning guidelines for US colleges and universities.

In 2014-2015, he worked for CDC in the Ebola response and deployed to Sierra Leone in Summer 2015 as an Infection Prevention and Control specialist.

He has been a AAAHC surveyor since 2005, concentrating in college health, primary care, and Indian Health settings. He is the current chair of the Primary Care Expert Content Committee.
